Day 11 Tuesday March 17th – a new type of day as we did not attend any classes or speaker’s series today. We woke up, skipped breakfast and hung around for a little waiting to meet with French Polynesian authorities in advance of our arrival into Nuku Hiva on Thursday. We were supposed to meet at 11:15am but an announcement was made that they were running behind schedule. So, we had lunch (hamburger and hot dog) and came back to the cabin when we heard our names overhead to report to the Horizons Lounge. We were famous and also the last passengers to meet for our visas. Hey, if you not first, you are last. 🙂

After meeting for our visas we went up to the spa deck and lay around. Jackie said the pool water was too cold so I went in and then into the jacuzzi to warm up as the pool was cold…laughing. We stayed there for about three hours and then back to the cabin for a shower and dinner tonight in the Terrace Cafe (cafeteria). Tonight was Indian food. Sort of confusing as today is St. Patrick’s Day. After dinner we came back to the cabin to watch some YouTube videos of our favorite video bloggers.

We crossed the equator today and I will post the photos that I posted earlier today on Facebook. Watching the map on TV was like watching a New Years Eve countdown as we waited for the zero degrees to appear.

Tomorrow is a ceremony for those passengers (like us) who have never crossed the equator by sea. It should be fun. Starting off the few photos of today with actually a photo taken by David Chen of Jackie and I at Toscano’s.

The Currents for March 17th

This was on the bed when we returned from dinner. I am a little confused about this but we will get it done.

The moment we crossed the equator

The degrees started the count up now as we head south

Looking for the equator line in the water like seen on a map, but no line was seen.

View from the spa deck from this afternoon

Jackie got some sushi for her appetizer

I grabbed some sort of Indian rice with a small salad. The rice was good although I avoided grabbing any of the meat, not knowing what it was. Sad, I know…laughing

We both had a steak which was good

Jackie had her favorite side — mashed potatoes

I had the guy fix me noodles with butter and garlic. Easy dinner tonight

Jackie had chocolate Venezuelan cake and sugar free chocolate orange cake

I had a scoop of raspberry ice cream

Sounds like a relaxing day. How is the food compared to HAL? Is there a live band to dance to like the Rolling Stone Lounge or BB Kings? How many passengers on board?

    1081 passengers currently

HAL buffet was better than Oceania other than not being able to find a place to sit in the HAL buffet. Jackie said larger and more variety on HAL. Myself – I can’t get past the inability to not find a seat in the HAL buffet although I did like on HAL they served you while on Oceania you have to serve yourself leading to spread of illness as we both know exists.

We think main dining room, specialty restaurants and the grill are better on Oceania. Although I admit to missing the candied bacon in Pinnacle. The pizza on Oceania is light years ahead of HAL. It might be different on the newer HAL ships.
The music scene on Oceania is much more low key and no venue to match The Rolling Stone Lounge on HAL
