Day 36 Saturday April 11th (84 days to go) — Last night at the Captain’s Party he mentioned about possible weather today which is usually a signal to cancelling the port. Sure enough at about 7:00am he came on the speaker (when you hear the speaker in your cabin you can expect bad news) and announced because of high winds and incoming weather he was cancelling the port. I will just say no comment.

We spent the day having breakfast with John and Joan Meyer, then went up to the spa deck for some jacuzzi soaking. In the afternoon Jackie worked on an itinerary for next week in Sydney and I worked on the blog. It was a shame that we could not sail about three miles closer to land so we could use LTE instead of the ship’s Wi-Fi. I read on Facebook that the Holland America Grand Voyage was staying additional time in a Japanese port after the captain spoke to port authorities and was allowed to spend the night instead of departing in the afternoon. Probably they have working Wi-Fi on the Holland America ship so their Captain could make a request. This is our 38th day of the cruise since leaving San Diego and we have missed three of sixteen ports. 34% of the cruise has been in ports and 66% at sea. Not a great percentage. I should have joined the Navy if I wanted to see the sea. My grandma used to sing me a song about that a LONG time ago…laughing. Again, kick me as I said No Comment. πŸ™‚

We had ordered breakfast the night before since we were to leave the ship at 7:30am

Photos of Mooloolaba and activity in the high wind waters. The captain in his announcement told passengers to look at the waves crashing on the rocks. I think every time I see waves and rocks together; the waves are crashing. Damn….stop me when I am going off the tracks here πŸ™‚

I tried warning these people that it was BAD weather, but they did not pay attention to me

Geez, I do not know if these fishermen survived the bad weather

Long way from land in this terrible weather πŸ™‚

We captured a great sunset before heading off to dinner with the other six. Another great shared dinner with catching up and laughing.

After dinner we went to the Martini Lounge to finish the night with a birthday celebration for Stephen Deboo. Stephen and his wife Lorna are originally from the UK but have lived in Portugal (I think it has been 20 years). It was a great way to end the evening with more laughter.

Happy Birthday to Stephen Deboo. You have to love this gift he was given by a fellow passenger πŸ™‚

It was also Diana’s birthday, and we had great fun with her. The staff onboard are just unbelievable in their kindness, politeness and work ethic.

Janet was also there. If you go back and read the blog from Papeete, Tahiti you will find when Janet has entered our blog. Again, just another wonderful individual that we have met on this World Cruise.

Jackie and I tease Janet when we see her around the ship because she is a self-proclaimed night owl. Now, we know that she is telling the truth hanging with this gang every night. Again, on this World Cruise you just meet people and become instant friends.

Jackie and her iMovie mentor LeAnne Bock. LeAnne is a fun person, and I think she is originally from Michigan but has spent her career traveling around the US for her work.

The piano player and singer is Dave. He reminded us of Austin Adams.

Stephen and Lorna. This couple has been fun to speak to when we see them around the ship. Stephen might be the one person I feel bad for on this cruise. He has the most remarkable travel blog up and running but because of the terrible Wi-Fi on the ship, he cannot post his videos. He is a professional vlogger and programmer so I cannot even imagine the amount of aggravation and frustration he must feel.
